My main research interest is in habitat loss and fragmentation effects on primates species and communities in the Neotropics. How habitat loss and fragmentation affects primates populations and the management tools that from conservation planning, we can incorporate to improve the conservation status and survivorship of this charismatic animals.

My PhD research focus on the habitat loss and fragmentation as landscape processes, which constitutes the main threats to primates species. These processes threat Colombian primate diversity. In the first chapter I’m reviewing the focus of primate studies, finding that most of them have been focus at site and patch level, without much attention to what happens at landscape level. Additionally, primate research has been conducted mainly at species level, with only a few studies at community level. Understanding fragmentation and habitat loss is a basic step in order to design effective conservation plans in fragmented landscapes. This project has two main components. First, a multi-scale analysis of fragmentation and habitat loss on primates at species and community level in the Colombian Llanos. Second, identify priority conservation areas for primates, in Colombian Llanos, using systematic conservation planning.

This PhD project is supervised by Dr. Jonathan Rhodes, Dr. Thomas Defler (Universidad Nacional de Colombia) and Dr. Clive McAlpine

This project is supported through IPRS/UQ Centennial Scholarships – University of Queensland and ARC Centre of Excellence for Environmental Decisions (CEED) Top-up.
